Referrals

We receive referrals from statutory organisations, schools, community groups and funding partners for individual young people at risk of harm or exploitation, or place based issues around such as anti-social behaviour, or areas where young people may potentially have barriers or poor access to activity provision.

Each referral is logged and assessed by our team to establish the level of need, the type of support which is required, and the best local partner organisation to meet the need for the referred individual or place.

Using collective intelligence from our stakeholders and themes arising from person, family and place referrals received, our partner organisations proactively deliver city wide projects in the community to support young people.

Individual referrals

Support can come in a number of ways and this can vary dependant on the risk factors around the young person and the issues they are experiencing. Initially, the Alliance provides mentoring support through the most suited partner organisation. Following this, and when the young person is ready, we can offer access to a diverse range of activities to suit the young person’s wishes, likes and interests. This is made possible through our ever growing network of approved alliance providers, covering a wide range of hobbies, skills and geographical locations to ensure that each child can be linked to a group that is right for them, without barriers to access.

The opportunities we offer meet the needs of and are relevant to our young people, these are always developing and changing and we are always keen to hear from new groups and organisations who are working with and for the young people in our city.

How to refer

If you are interested in referring into the Youth Alliance, you need to complete a form for the young person that needs support. At the moment we are only accepting official referrals from Youth Offending Services, Derby City Council, Derby Homes, Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing, Schools and Community Groups, and these referrals will be prioritised by risk factors surrounding the child.

You should forward your completed form to michelle.butler@communityactionderby.org.uk and we will get back to you to confirm receipt, to update you on the progress of your referral and to update you on which provider will be offering support.

You are also welcome to attend our Children and Young People's networking sessions where our wider network of service providers meet.
